Muay Thai is widely known as the most effective striking martial art, and has been practiced for hundreds of years. The ‘Art of 8 Limbs’ is a historic sport here in Weymouth, and at The Combat Lab we offer you outstanding coaching from undefeated Thai boxer, Jay Robinson.

What is Muay Thai?

Muay Thai has long been known as the most effective striking art.

Utilising the entire body as a weapon, the ‘Art of Eight Limbs’ uses punches, kicks, knees, elbows and clinch work to beat an opponent.

Muay Thai is the national sport of Thailand, where many of the biggest events and training camps reside.

Here in Weymouth there is a rich history with Muay Thai, with the infamous King Tiger Gym, producing many world champions.

Here at The Combat Lab we look to continue the development of the towns upcoming athletes, through our structure training programmes and world class coaching.

What do I need to bring?

We will have all of the necessary equipment for you to get started. Just wear a sports shirt and shorts and turn up 10 minutes before your session, so that you can sign all the necessary documents. Also bring a big bottle of water, you will need it.

Do I need to be fit to start Muay Thai?

Muay Thai is an intense sport, however you do not need to be an Olympic Athlete to start the sport. We will get you learning the techniques first and over time and with consistent work you will be build a strong level of fitness.

What will my first Muay Thai session be like?

For your first session, you will come into the gym and after signing the necessary documents at the desk, we will get you some gloves and shinpads and then the class will start the warmup.

The warm up will involve a good full body stretch, with some added emphasis on the legs as you will be kicking a lot. Following the warmup there will be some shadow boxing and then you will be paired up with a partner and will begin learning techniques through the guidance of the coach. At the end, there may be some light sparring depending on your skill level.

Then the class will finish and a member of our team will check on how your session went.
